Orinda Intermediate School

Students are exploring their talents with electives at OIS.

EFO funding is essential to providing the excellent educational experience offered at Orinda Intermediate School. In the 2011-2012 school year, EFO will fund 17 elective sections at OIS including: French and Spanish, Public Speaking, Debate, Drama, Video Production, Woodshop and Art. EFO fully funds the Instrumental Music Program: Jazz Band, Concert Band, Bulldog Band and String Orchestra. The OIS librarian’s salary, as well as technology, library materials, and equipment are also made possible by your gift to EFO.

The benefit of critical thinking skills is obvious but, perhaps, an equally important skill is learning to listen. In Debate, our students must respond to every point made by the other side. They must then weigh the impacts of both sides in order to declare victory. It’s really rewarding to watch kids suddenly listen intently to other speakers, take notes on every argument in the debate, and then respond point-by-point. This is a skill that will benefit them throughout life.  ~Terry Eubanks, OIS Public Speaking and Debate
