Elementary Schools

Music and art are flourishing in our schools…and our children are thriving in smaller classes

EFO provides 100% of the funding of Art, Choral and Instrumental Music classes in Orinda’s elementary schools. Our elementary school students receive broad exposure to art history, theory and vocabulary and experience hands-on a variety of art materials tools and media. Music teachers work with students to develop their interest in singing, and if they choose, playing an instrument.
In partnership with Parents’ Clubs, EFO dollars support K–3 classroom size reduction, ensuring that no K–3 class has more than 20 students. Smaller class size means teachers have more time per student and gives them extra time to focus on individual needs. This focus on small class size distinguishes Orinda schools from most California elementary schools.

Art encourages imagination and promotes originality. It exercises the right brain, trains the eye, and fosters creative expression… children who learn to appreciate art do better in every phase of their lives. Thanks to EFO for making this possible. ~Linda Kam, Wagner Ranch Art Teacher

I was amazed by how much the kids learned in Band in such a short period of time each week. The All-Schools Concert in the spring was a fun evening with wonderful performances from all ages. I am grateful to Mr. Uyeno and EFO for inspiring in my child an enthusiasm for music and playing an instrument. Thank you!  ~Carrie Hillen, Sleepy Hollow Parent
